Pensacola Mist - Lost in Love
OK, Before you do anything make sure you listen to the album and I mean properly listen, find yourself an hour and a comfy seat and get ready to enjoy an absolute banger.
‘Lost in Love’ has just dropped today which has coincided with my day off ‘WIN!!’ I have really been looking forward to hearing this since I heard of its release, I have seen the band a few times live and enjoyed their previous releases ‘This Neon City’ and ‘Want to believe’ I usually hate anticipating an album release because from past experiences I’m left feeling pretty let down or bewildered by an artistic sideways step or regurgitated material, however this has made me smile so much today and has genuinely brightened my Friday!
This is the first album the band has released whilst being signed to Aztec records (I believe) and I’d dare to be as bold to say I think this is their best work to date. What an amazingly well thought out album; yes you heard me right, albums are still a thing and here lies some proof. This is not just a collection of songs that have been curated and thrown together, the album has an arc and a story to it that takes you on a journey, so again please do yourself a favour and invest an hour into some good music. The first thing that I noticed was the level of production on display here, it’s simply astounding, and each song feels like it has had the care and attention to detail it deserves whilst still sounding like a cohesive album.
My favourite tracks from the album are ‘The Dying Light’ ‘Amelia’ and ‘MESSIAH’ but in all honesty there is not a single skippable track to be found here. I am both immensely impressed and jealous in equal proportions at the song writing and story telling, I love the variety of vocals, instrumentation harmony and rhythms that keeps each song feeling interesting and fresh, I also appreciated the mid-point chill of the album that ramps up towards its climax ‘MESSIAH’ and let me tell you a song title that uses capitals better back it up with some good music, SPOILERS these guys knocked it out the park with a freakin’ sax solo! BAM! straight back to the 80’s
Look, it’s not often I get excited by new music but here I am today, Friday morning now clambering to find gig dates to hear this live. I believe wholeheartedly Pensacola Mist are destined for great things and this is just the beginning of their upwards trajectory, I can’t wait to see what they do next!
